Genuine Concurrent Audio Stream Reproduction

The Codentity® True Blend™ Media Player System (MPS) is a Windows®-based PC software product which can be categorized as a digital media management solution that provides comprehensive audio reproduction and mixing capabilities. 

The True Blend™ Media Player System adds automated or manual transition mixing to the hit-music reference database known as the—Music MegaBase® Catalog (MMBC).  The True Blend™ MPS offers automatic timing calculation and control that executes smooth, gapless, concurrently OVERLAPPING or concurrently ADJOINED transitions. 

Almost other every digital audio mixing design* produces automatic (i.e., cross fade) transitions which commonly consist of a premature fade OUT of song A, followed by an unnatural fade IN of song B—something known as a "DIP and CLIP" effect.  This unfortunate result never happens with the True Blend™ MPS.

True Blend™ places lots of other important capabilities within easy-reach of mobile DJs and audio operators.  In addition to natural transitions, each copy of the True Blend™ MPS includes each of these standard features:

The Case for True Blend™ vs. * Other Products

Software-based Media Players—Consumer grade media rendering objects (the type typically distributed free of charge to PC users) are very good at almost everything they do.  However, in their so-called automatic "cross fade" audio track transitions, all known implementations generally exhibit an undesirable DIP and CLIP pattern (premature fade out, then forced fade IN).

With these products, the degree of DIP and CLIP severity varies, and is often affected by the characteristics of the songs involved in each transition, and the signal processing techniques utilized by different media player vendors.  Additionally, all known software-based consumer solutions (except True Blend™) implement automatic cross fades with DSP (digital signal processing)—which involves considerable CPU overhead during the transition computation process.

These designs, which all seem to execute inside ONE media player object, do not permit a natural overlapping transition from any point in a track's timeline.  Instead, they require CPU cycles to simulate a transition; and if the user clicks randomly to advance to the next track, the content change occurs immediately—WITHOUT a smooth transition.  (In other words, these designs usually "dump" track A in order to start track B.)

True Blend™—In contrast, the True Blend™ Media Player System does not suffer from DIP and CLIP performance because it achieves genuine overlapped (or adjoined) audio transitions using TWO independent software players.  With True Blend™, the timing and transition logic is executed outside of any media player; and the system then directs each media player's behavior as required.

This multi-player independent-logic design also allows True Blend™ to deliver seamless overlapping transitions in every case—from any point in the timeline.  Since True Blend™ calculates (or retrieves) each track's optimum play (duration) time at the moment each transition command is executed, True Blend™ uses almost zero CPU cycles.  So, both manual and automatic transitions are natural and fluid.

Software-based DJ Mixing Products—All known digital DJ-style "pro-sumer" mixing solutions, when in automatic DSP (digital signal processing) cross fade mode, seem to execute their transitions with the same aggravating DIP and CLIP effect described above.  Some even have the audacity to arbitrarily truncate (as in eliminate) the start of song B, in order to make what's left of song B somehow fit with the ending section of song A.

This means that most of these products, despite sometimes offering acceptable MANUALLY-invoked transition effects, have serious limitations.  If the DJ relies on this type of software to execute cross fade events, it cannot match the high-quality, and natural concurrent overlapping performance, of True Blend™ transitions.

True Blend™—Good news for DJs who want their software automation to execute natural transitions—every time—even when they are away from the controls:  The True Blend™ Media Player System does not suffer from the dreaded DIP and CLIP performance because it achieves genuine overlapped (or adjoined) audio transitions using TWO independent software players.  Additionally, True Blend™ never alters the creative content of the recording artist by causing premature fades or removing whole sections of a song.  With the True Blend™ MPS, the DJ and the audience hear the music as expected.

Broadcast Automation Software—There are expensive broadcast automation software programs that do provide natural overlapping and adjoined transitions—however these solutions require an administrative user to somehow assign a track-specific duration value for each song in their music library.  With many thousands of songs in the system, this is a labor-intensive task.

Professional-grade broadcast automation systems often need special hardware too.  These systems are generally marketed for radio station group clusters, and network or satellite delivery music formats.  At a typical cost of many many thousands of dollars, these solutions are not practical for the casual DJ or home entertainment music lover.

True Blend™—The patent-pending True Blend™ Media Player System (MPS) calculates the unique optimum duration period for each track—without user intervention.  True Blend™ performs each track's timing calculation in real-time (without CPU overhead) at the moment the PLAY command for that track is called.  Also, the True Blend™ MPS accepts (but does not require) the assignment of precise track duration (i.e., play lengths).  At runtime, specific duration values, if present, take priority over computed duration times.

Hardware-based Media Players—Obviously, there are many hardware-based digital audio media players.  Codentity has not conducted exhaustive tests with these professional or consumer-grade hardware devices.  However, we know of no small-format device, including smart phones with media player capability, that can perform the genuine overlapping music transitions provided by the True Blend™ Media Player System.

Because it is easy to suspend continuous transitions, the audio operator can set up his sound list, and play each track on demand (in live-assist mode).  After the effect has played, the system will pause until the operator starts the next event.  Sound cues can be individually activated with a click of the Play Next (ALT+N) button when indicated by the stage directions.   Your small form computing device can be utilized as a portable, and highly-flexible, sound mixing library.

 EXAMPE D:   Home Entertainment UsersGenuine music lovers appreciate and expect to hear their favorite music in the original form as intended by the recording artist: FREE of premature fade OUTS and unnatural fade INS.  Installing the True Blend™ MPS on a media center computer or laptop connected to an entertainment center transforms the home front into the ultimate digital music jukebox.  Users (and their guests) can easily search and select hit-music tracks.  They can also create and save named playlists.

No other product, from any vendor at any price, can provide the superior portable, and live-assist, audio sequencing experience of the True Blend™ Media Player System (MPS).  Some of the major True Blend™ distinctions include:

   
  Auto Track Duration  
   

The True Blend™ Media Player System (MPS) can automatically determine and apply the optimum duration for fade or cold (i.e., abrupt) end tracks.  With True Blend™ timing ON, each track (digital audio file) will load from the ATL (assigned track list)** and play until the automation starts the next track—unless a manual command triggers an early start to the next transition event.  The duration for each discrete track is calculated by the system at the moment the transition command loads the track.***

** The True Blend™ MPS maintains an independent dynamic playlist—called the ATL for "assigned track list"—which is not part of any media player.  The ATL holds hyperlinks and other data connected with titles (i.e., songs) in the MMBC catalog.  During operation the MPS sequences tracks based on their positions in the ATL

*** If the user has programmed a precise duration for any one track, the programmed duration will take priority over the True Blend™ calculated duration.  Read more about timing options in the next paragraph.

 NOTE:   Unlike other digital audio sequencing / mixing products, the True Blend™ Media Player System does NOT require file "preparation".  Optimum  PLAY duration can be calculated by True Blend™ without the need for file editing tasks (such as trimming silence sections from the end of the file, remastering for audio leveling, or assigning desired duration values).  See the MMBC FAQ page to learn more.

 
  Multiple Timing Modes  
   

While the True Blend™ Media Player System (MPS) is capable of automatically determining the optimum duration value (i.e., play length) for any audio track in its associated MMBC catalog, it also provides alternate timing modes.  Included modes consist of:

Discrete duration (i.e., precise assignment of play time to within 1/4 of a second), Sample duration (a temporary user-selected and system-enforced limited play time in order to produce a "preview" effect), Timer Sentry duration (where the next transition will occur when the system detects silence), and Manual duration where the user can choose to invoke a transition at any time.  All timing modes preserve the selected auto fade and auto level values, plus, as appropriate for the creative content of each track, the natural overlaps or adjoined transition effects.

 
  Natural Transitions  
  TBMPS

The True Blend™ Media Player System plays tracks from TWO independent players, and can recognize the end style of tracks as fade or cold.  Each transition is executed as either an overlapped event or an adjoined event.  This MPS capability eliminates the annoying premature fade OUTS, and unwanted fade INS, often heard in other digital audio mixing products.

 FOR EXAMPE:   In the MPS, if track A ends with a FADE, track B will start at its normal volume level—while track A is still fading.  This is an overlapped transition.  (In this example the listener will hear the creative content**** of each track concurrently.)  In different cases where, for instance, track A ends COLD, the MPS will start track B at its normal volume level—at the moment track A ends abruptly.  This is an adjoined (i.e., abutted) transition.

****In the MPS, the natural conclusion of any track is defined as the point in time at which the audible "creative content" portion of a track ends.  For a fade end song, its natural conclusion would occur at a point where the creative content audio level had begun fading—but before the audio level was so low that the full volume start of the next song would produce a marked difference in levels between track A and track B.

With the MPS, the system's ability to recognize unwanted "silence sections" (which are almost always appended to the end of digital audio files in the mastering process), and then mathematically compensate for their duration in order to effectively "remove" those silence sections, is part of the patent-pending technology that enables natural True Blend™ transitions.

 
 

Auto Fades

 
   

With Auto Fade ON, the True Blend™ Media Player System (MPS) will automatically apply the user's choice of fade events.  The default fade selection produces a 5 second "fade-to-zero" for the concluding track.  3 and 7 second fade options are also available.  (See the next topic for elaboration on paired fade slopes.)

Power Fade is provided for situations where the DJ might want to transition smoothly from audio in one of the True Blend™ players—to a track in an EFX player.  Power Fade is activated with a double-click on the Active Track light (or click of the CTRL+9 speed key combination); it begins a 5-second fade-to-zero for the active player.  When the fade is underway, the DJ can start audio in the EFX player.  (EFX players also provide a manually-invoked power fade feature.)

With Auto Fade OFF, the user can allow the automation timing to start the next event, OR decide to begin a manual transition to the next track—while retaining audio from the current track.  In a case like this, several options are included to preserve fade and level control for the hidden player:  Shadow Fade™ (which is Power Fade applied to hidden player); Shadow Dip™ (incremental multi-step click reduction applied to hidden player); and Zero Now™ (a speed key—CTRL+Z—command that will instantly set the audio level of the hidden player to ZERO).

NOTE:   In the True Blend™ MPS, TWO independent media players are utilized to reproduce audio tracks.  Player 1 transitions to Player 2, which next transitions back to Player 1, then to Player 2, and so on.  However, only ONE player is visible at any time.  For example, when Player 1 is playing, Player 2 is hidden.  When the system (or a manual click from the user) executes a transition to Player 2, it becomes visible and Player 1 is hidden.

This minimalist design aspect allows for LARGER screen objects in limited screen space.  Don't worry, the user (and the system) retain control of audio levels in the hidden player at all times.  Learn about live-assist capability for mobile DJs.  See the True Blend™ and ATL User Guide for more details.

 
  Paired Fade Slopes  

The True Blend™ Media Player System provides a series of paired fade slopes in order to effect mild, moderate, and aggressive level reductions.  For example, when the default 5 second fade event is selected, the MPS will assign a corresponding moderate level reduction with each passing second.  However, if the user chooses to apply a 3 second fade, a more aggressive level reduction is executed.  (This is handy when the next track begins with a cold start where a vocal is heard from the top of the track.)  And a 7 second fade is paired with a mild slope level reduction as the audio fades to zero.

NOTE:   With Auto Fade ON, the paired fade slope functionality is applied to the automation-controlled and timed events.  And with Auto Fade ON, the paired fade slope functionality is also applied to MANUALLY-STARTED transitions.*   (With Auto Fade OFF, different level and fade control effects are available.  See the Auto Fades topic above.)

*With the True Blend™ MPS, the next "play event" (i.e., the start of the next audio file) can be initiated any time with a click of the Play Next button.  The next play event can be started by the user whether Auto Fade is ON or OFF—and regardless of selected timing mode.

For example, with True Blend™ timing ON, and Auto Fade ON, MMBC logic will automatically compute the optimal duration of each track (i.e., audio file)—and execute the transition while applying the selected fade pattern.  However, in this scenario, the user can choose to end the playing track early by clicking the Play Next button—and the selected fade pattern will be applied.  Auto Fade also works for other timing modes such as Forced dTRT (i.e., preview) mode.

  Auto Level Execution  
   

The True Blend™ Media Player System allows (but does not require) the user to designate a specific audio level for any track in his associated MMBC catalog (music database).  The available audio level range is from 0 to 100.  For example, if a particular track is known to have a loud master level, the user might choose to assign a volume of 60% of maximum.

Once a specific audio level has been assigned to a PAF (primary audio file—i.e., the track or recording associated with a catalog title), that level will be stored in the catalog (i.e., database) with the other attributes for that particular title.

In cases where the user has not assigned a specific track level, the system will use a default level equivalent to 80% of full volume.  At play time, the MPS will set each track's audio level accordingly.  This capability can prevent a jarring change in audio levels, and contributes to the execution of smooth, flowing transitions.

During playback, the active player (i.e., the player that is not hidden) permits granular level adjustment with the standard Windows Media Player (WMP) slider control.  Additionally, the True Blend™ MPS also delivers a handy method to override a pre-set level or a default level.  The NTL (Next Track Level) button cycles through a series of audio level settings that apply to the NEXT track—one time only.

For example, if a DJ plans on talking over the start of the next track, clicking the NTL button until a 30% level is assigned, will begin play of that track at the lower level.  When the DJ is finished talking, the WMP slider control for the active player is available so the level can be increased as appropriate.

The True Blend™ Media Player System also provides the following manually invoked audio level controls:  Mute (with large, easy to see buttons for each player); Level Dip (one-click reduction to background level for active player—then simply one-click again to RESTORE to previous level); Shadow Dip™ (incremental multi-step click reduction applied to hidden player*); and Zero Now™ (a speed key—CTRL+Z—command that will instantly set the audio level of the hidden player to ZERO).

*With Shadow Dip™, it is possible to gradually reduce the audio level for the hidden player all the way to zero—or to any point along the way; and then, by CTRL-CLICKING its respective Dip button, the level can be returned to 90% of maximum.  This provides an easy way to recover audio from a hidden player.

 
  Advanced Search and Filtering  
   

The True Blend™ MPS forever ends the need to use the cumbersome "thumb and scroll" and imprecise "swipe and guess" search mechanisms found in other digital music products.  With the True Blend™ MPS, directly search by key categories (such as Artist, Music Type, Decade, etc.), apply matching attribute filters if desired, then load and play tracks in seconds.  Get started with your keyboard, then mouse-click to select track you want loaded on the ATL (Assigned Track List).

Create and save named playlists; then load the named playlist with a click of the "Match Batch" button—or "cherry pick" tracks on the filtered list.  Browse categories and add tracks to the ATL (assigned track list, i.e., the "dynamic playlist") at any time before play begins, or while a play event is in progress.

All the described search functionality (and more) is available as a standard feature of the True Blend™ MPS.  Users who acquire the optional Keyword Compositor™, or optional Keyword Query Toolset™, can greatly amplify the default search power contained in the True Blend™ MPS and its integrated MMBC catalog.

 
  Track Flow Control  
   

The True Blend™ MPS allows users to change the play sequence of tracks loaded on the ATL (Assigned Track List) on demand.  The user can choose to move forward or backward in the dynamic playlist—automatically or manually.

 FOR EXAMPLE:   If there are 30 tracks on the ATL, and the currently playing track (i.e., song) is from ATL position 10, the normal behavior would next play ATL position 11.  However, the Set Next Auto Play command (CTRL+Q) will permit the user to program the MPS to transition instead to an odd-numbered ATL track (such as 13, 21, 27, 9, 5, etc.).   See the True Blend™ MPS and ATL User Guide for more details.

Additionally, tracks can be copied from any ATL position to a different ATL position; and entire blocks of tracks can be moved or deleted with one or two clicks.  Users with the optional ATL Image Manager can substitute entire playlists with a few clicks—and the change will not affect playback of current audio.  In fact, all modifications to playlist content and sequence order are accomplished without affecting the audio content of the currently active True Blend™ player.  Adding, deleting, and rearranging track sequences is fluid and completely seamless.

 
  Unified Playlist Manager  
   

True Blend™ includes handy playlist and set name capabilities as a standard feature.  Users can save named playlists, then apply a match filter allowing them to browse each list—and load tracks with a single-click.  A Match Batch command permits the automatic loading of named lists directly to the ATL (Assigned Track List).

However, some users may want to take playlist management to a higher level with the optional ATL Image Manager™ (IM).  The ATL IM allows users to easily construct ordered playlists—complete with MMBC catalog data for each track.  Name each ATL image (i.e., playlist), then instantly load the image with as little as two clicks.  Specific track duration and audio level values (if assigned) travel and load with associated tracks, so the system always knows how to best play each track.  Learn more here.

 
  Layered Keyword Capability  
   

Achieve an unprecedented degree of search precision in seconds with the optional Keyword Compositor™ (KWC).  The KWC integrates the application of layered query (search) parameters where the additive effect quickly refines track selection.  For example, begin with a DECADE filter (such as 1980), add a TEMPO specification (such as U for up-tempo), narrow the results further with a GENDER value (such as female only), MUSIC TYPE (such as ROCK), and so on.*****  The KWC includes more than 100 specially-crafted queries providing thousands of lightning-fast search and select variations.  Learn more here.

 FOR EXAMPLE:   ***** Using the KWC to apply the layered query described above, typical results would include: "Heartbreaker" by Pat Benetar, "Harden My Heart" by Quarterflash, and "There's The Girl" by Heart.

 
  Clear Intuitive Interface  

The True Blend™ MPS is easy-to-use—with an intuitive, forms-based interface.  Design considerations such as large display fonts, Codentity® FlowCue® objects and high-contrast color schemes make it easy to understand and control operational workflow at a glance.

The simple point and click interface requires no special training and will be naturally intuitive for any user of Microsoft® Office programs.  Seven levels of built-in HELP, including context-sensitive problem resolution, provide assistance when needed.  And the user can choose between brief or expanded HELP intervention.  See screen images here.

How It Works

The patent-pending technology in the True Blend™ Media Player System (MPS) works magic for mobile DJs, live events audio producers, and home entertainment users looking for a completely natural mixing experience.  The next section digs a bit deeper.

Natural Transitions Every Time

True Blend™ logic "knows" when to execute either an overlapped or adjoined transition.  As a result, for a first track (i.e., song) that concludes, for example, with a fade, the second track (i.e., next track) is automatically started by the system at normal volume and heard to overlap the fading end of the first track. 

Example 1 demonstrates how the Codentity® True Blend™ Media Player System will concurrently reproduce (i.e., overlap) audio from both players—using a standard 2-channel (stereo) PC sound card.  In the graphic below, the Player 1 audio level (500) is depicted as fading out.  Observe that the Player 2 audio level (600) is seen starting at full volume at a point in time before Player 1 audio concludes.  The overlapped interval is depicted by the shaded lines (1100).

Alternatively, as demonstrated in the next illustration, where the first track ends "cold", the second track is automatically started by the True Blend™ Media Player system and heard to adjoin the abrupt end of the first track.

In Example 2, the Player 1 audio level (500) is depicted as ending cold (i.e., abruptly).  Observe that the Player 2 audio level (600) is seen starting at full volume at the point in time when Player 1 audio concludes (1200).  Using a standard 2-channel PC sound card, the Codentity® True Blend™ Media Player System will concurrently reproduce adjoined audio from both players.

Example 2: True Blend™ adjoined (abutted) transition

As visually demonstrated by the examples 1 and 2 above, with the True Blend™ Media Player System, the volume of the second track is not arbitrarily modified by the transition logic.  Each track's audio begins playing at its normal level in every instance—and at the optimally-timed moment with regard to the creative content of the preceding track.

Bottom line: With True Blend™, the start of the second track does not cause the first track to fade out prematurely—an event that occurs with most DSP cross fade methods.  And since True Blend™ automatically recognizes the difference between fade end and cold end audio tracks, True Blend™ can execute completely natural transitions without user intervention.  This is perfect for mobile DJs, audio events producers, and home entertainment systems. 

 TIP:  The True Blend™ Media Player System (MPS) automatically computes optimal PLAY times, starts the next event, and fades the preceding event (when appropriate).  However, for users who wish to have precise control of timing, the MPS enables direct assignment of PLAY times for each track—to within a tolerance of 1/4 second.  The volume level (from 0 to 100 per cent) for any discrete audio track can also be specified and saved.  During playback, the MPS will automatically set the assigned volume every time.  This is true even when a track is loaded from named ATL Image Manager playlists (because the assigned volume is saved with other track data in the ATL image).

Simulated Cross Fades Can Be Unnatural

DSP (digital signal processing) cross fades utilize a variety of techniques to select a changeover point between two tracks, and then simulate a multi-player transition—in ONE media player.  As a consequence, with DSP cross fades, the volume of the second track is often arbitrarily modified by the transition logic.  True Blend™ does not use DSP cross fades.  Instead, True Blend™ implements two independent players, and programmatically computes and mixes the output of each player—with perfectly executed timing. 

DSP cross fade designs generally produce a gradual fade OUT of a first track, paired with a gradual fade IN of a second track.  This is not natural.

Example 3: Typical DSP transitions executed in other products          (Compare with True Blend™ transitions.)

In Example 3 above, the Player 1 audio level for track 1 (500.1) is illustrated as ending with a FORCED fade out—even in situations where the content ends cold.  Observe that the Player 1 audio level for track 2 (500.2) is shown starting at a reduced volume—i.e., fading in—even when the content should start at full volume.  The affected "dip and clip" interval is depicted by the shaded lines (1300).  These unfortunate results are often produced by DSP designs that simulate transitions by executing in a single media player object.

 NOTE:  Example 3 represents one DSP-executed cross fade transition.  Each transition will be different.  In some cases, for example, a DSP cross fade transition may force a fade OUT of track 1 (500.1) by reducing its level to 20% of full volume.  And, at that point, it might then start track 2 (500.2) at 20% of full volume as part of a forced fade IN.  Or, in some instances, where the contributing factors may include the evaluation of a track's waveform, the DSP algorithm might start track 2 at 80%, or even 100%, of its mastered audio level. 

Testing various DSP-type automix solutions has revealed that products from different DSP vendors produce different degrees of acceptable transitions.  And those degrees of "transition fidelity" (i.e., conformance to the audio sound design) vary depending on the paired songs utilized in the transition.  With DSP cross fades, results are not universally consistent—and therefore cannot be reliable.

Too complicate matters, there is now a DSP music transition solution that arbitrarily truncates (i.e., deletes) entire sections of a music track's creative content in order to produce what it determines to be a desirable transition.  This design can produce an acceptable "beat-matched" segue (i.e., transition), however it frequently comes at the expense of radically altering a song's original production design.

In any case, DSP transition behavior is often unnatural and quite different from the patent-pending True Blend™ Media Player System (MPS) which reproduces each track in its OWN player—and, therefore, is not subject to arbitrary fade outs and fade ins.  This advantage, among other things, permits the Codentity® True Blend™ MPS logic to independently control audio track attributes such as PLAY length, audio levels, fade slopes, etc.  And this independence is what permits the True Blend™ MPS to perform genuine overlapped or seamlessly adjoined audio transitions.

True Blend™ Technology Is Superior

The True Blend™ MPS operates with TWO independent media player objects (and one standard sound card circuit).  True Blend™ does not use cross fades, so it does not rely on complex computed DSP cross fade timing estimates.  Therefore, True Blend™ does not enforce a fade out of the first track, and then present an unnatural fade in of the second track.  This means that with True Blend™, each track's audio level is played according to its original sound design, thereby matching the creative intention of the artist, and the expectation of the listener.

The MMBC True Blend™ MPS also provides a better automatic track selection and transition experience.  Unlike certain solutions that implement a DSP automix with software selected sequencing that arbitrarily truncates (i.e., removes) the first section of a first song, or eliminates the last section of a second song, in order to simulate a stylized beat match effect—the True Blend™ MPS performs overlapping transitions without removing creative content.

Codentity® True Blend™ technology is superior because it produces natural transitions EVERY TIME.  Compare that performance with DSP-computed operations that MIGHT produce a natural transition—but only in a minority of cases where the direct comparison of adjacent song characteristics can be effectively analyzed by the applied DSP logic.

More Accurate and Efficient Timing Calculations

Since the patent-pending technology in the True Blend™ MPS recognizes the specific sound design of each track without utilizing DSP overhead and DSP limitations, it can instantly distinguish between audio recordings (i.e., tracks) that resolve with a fade ending or a cold (i.e., abrupt) ending.  This capability, among other things, allows the system to automatically compute optimum timing values (play intervals) for each discrete track.  The optimum timing values are calculated in "real time" at the moment the transition command is activated.  Once timing values are known, the True Blend™ Media Player System configures transition events as naturally overlapping or, where appropriate, adjoined (i.e., tightly abutted) audio streams.

Further, with True Blend™, the live events sound producer, mobile DJ, or home entertainment enthusiast can choose to allow the system's automatic timer to control when the next transition begins; or the user can click the Play Next button to manually activate a transition at any time.  Since each track is played in an independent media player, random (i.e., manual) transition activation does not cause an abrupt cessation of first track audio when second track audio begins.  So, even in manually activated transitions, the fade settings of the True Blend™ MPS are automatically applied to the concluding first track while the starting second track is concurrently reproduced at its normal level.

Compare this True Blend™ Media Player System behavior with that of typical cross fade designs where the audio transition is executed from one media player.   During automatic cross fade mode, common to other digital media file mixing products, a manually activated advance from the first track to the second track will cancel DSP computations and cause the first track to stop immediately—in order to load and start the second track.

Cross fade implementations found in other products do not concurrently execute overlapped or adjoined audio streams like the True Blend™ MPS.  Consequently, their ability to provide optimally-timed transitions between, for example, a cold (i.e., abrupt) end track and a cold start track can be problematic.  However, with the True Blend™ MPS, a cold end first track will conclude at normal volume, and the start of the second track at normal volume will be closely aligned with, and where appropriate, slightly overlapped with, the end of the first track.

Additionally, with True Blend™, operator intervention is not required to determine track timing.  There is no need for the user to tell the system how long the so-called "creative content" portion of any particular song should be.  The patent-pending technology in the True Blend™ Media Player System manages all the calculations behind the scenes as each transition is executed!

Mobile DJs, for example, can invoke True Blend™ automation to execute perfectly-timed overlapping transitions while they are busy placing music requests on the active playlist, or away from the computer speaking with audience members, or across the room conducting sound checks.  And when desired, the mobile DJ can choose to end a track early by clicking the Play Next button.  The change to the next track will occur immediately, while preserving natural overlapping transitions.

And if the mobile DJ is using a wireless keyboard or wireless controller, he or she can execute a smooth transition from any "in range" point in the room—complete with auto fades and optimum playback levels.

Advanced Performance Control Features

True Blend™ also provides: automatic level-set (using a system default value or permitting the user to specify a precise level for any discrete track); automatic fades with user-configurable paired fade slopes (to shape the severity of the applied level reduction); the ability to turn auto fade off and substitute a user-invoked "shadow fade" (i.e., delayed fade) effect; an optional "preview" (i.e., sample) mode that accepts various limited play intervals for tracks on the live playlist; and even the capability for the user to specify, save, and then automatically apply the precise duration for any track in the system—to within a tolerance of 1/4 second!

The integrated True Blend™ EFX Player provides alternative SEARCH, FILTER and PLAY capability which is essential for fast-changing audio events.  EFX Player A is furnished with the True Blend™ Media Player System at no extra cost.  EFX Player B is available when the optional ATL Image Manager™ is installed and activated.  (Users who acquire the ATL Image Manager™ are not required to pay more for EFX Player B.)

   
 

Because the EFX players function independently of the True Blend™ players, the EFX players allow the user to conduct search, set-up, and play operations without affecting the loaded playlist in the ATL (Assigned Track List).  This means that the EFX players do not interrupt automatic or manual sequencing, yet the EFX players are always available for sound effects (or music track) presentation with a simple click.

NEW—For downloads or optical disks obtained after 10/17/2013, users will receive the upgraded version of EFX Player A.  Now, EFX Player A includes its "primary" EFX A player, and two additional players.  With this improved configuration, EFX A now permits users to pre-load the primary player, and assign up to nine additional tracks to IP (instant play) bars.

When a track is assigned to an IP bar, clicking that IP bar will cause the designated track to begin playback in the first available player of EFX A.  For example, if IP Bar 5 is ready to go, clicking IP Bar 5 will cause its assigned track (i.e., digital audio file) to begin playback in the EFX A primary player—if that player is not currently playing a track.  If the EFX A primary player is busy, the click on IP Bar 5,  of this example, would start playback in EFX A player 2 unless it was busy, in which case the system would begin play of the track in EFX A player 3.

This expanded player deck configuration permits the user to assign a series of sound effects, sampled tracks, dialogue drops, or any other audio event, to the pre-staged positions—and then start the EFX with a click of a mouse, speed key set, or supported controller (like the wireless Xbox® 360 controller).

True Blend™ Media Player System (MPS) playlist information is stored in a dynamic playlist called—the ATL (Assigned Track List).  An ATL “image” is a collection of songs and related information saved as a named, ordered playlist.  The optional ATL Image Manager (IM) adds super-sized Create, Classify, Filter, Sort, Search, Load and Edit functions—to the basic playlist management capabilities in the True Blend™ MPS.

With the ATL Image Manager you can create and save an unlimited number of playlists in advance; and then load any "image" (i.e., named playlist) in about 1 second.  And you can "mix it up" too—simply browse your ATL image list, select and load your playlist, then apply the True Blend™ shuffle feature.

 IMPORTANT:   Unlike some other digital audio mixing software products, changing a playlist in the True Blend™ MPS does not interrupt audio playback.  This is possible because the MPS gets its playlist data from the ATL (Assigned Track List) which is stored outside the individual media players.

The ATL IM library retains each track's assigned audio level, timing cues, end style (i.e., fade or cold), and media file folder location; and the ATL IM instantly loads the songs from the selected image (i.e., playlist) to the live ATL.  The True Blend™ MPS then pulls data from the ATL and transfers the track hyperlinks into the respective True Blend™ player (either 1 or 2) during a PLAY event.  The user sets all this in motion with one or two clicks.

The optional Keyword Query Toolset™ (KWT) presents 14 specially-targeted “single action” keyword queries (search instructions) that add greater precision to the powerful native search controls in the MMBC.  The associated Keyword Results (KWR) form provides 15 integrated sort and filter buttons to easily narrow or reclassify search results.  Examples of user-interactive KWT queries include: Title, Artist, Music Type, Year of Release, Tempo, Gender, File Path, and more.

 FOR EXAMPLE:  Imagine YOU are a producer for a TV program weather segment.  There has been a lot of rain in your area, and you want to quickly locate a popular song that emphasizes the heavy rainfall phenomenon.  You want your audio engineer to play a "rain" song under the weather graphics.

Start with the Search by Title query button in the Keyword Query Toolset™ to locate each listing in the catalog (i.e., database) that includes the term "rain" in the TITLE.  Enter the word "rain" (without the quotes) and then press the Results button.

In about 1 second, the Results form will display more than 50 records (i.e., title / artist combinations) including: "Blue Eyes Cryin' In The Rain" by Willie Nelson, "Fire And Rain" by James Taylor, "Fool In The Rain" by Led Zeppelin, "Have You Ever Seen The Rain?" by CCR, and so on.  (It will also list, for instance, "Downtown Train" by Rod Stewart—because it has "rain" in the title.)

If you want to refine the search, and show ONLY titles that have a corresponding digital audio file on your computer, click the Match PAF button.  When the query dialog box reappears, enter the SAME search term, "rain", again.   All songs with the word RAIN in the title will be displayed, but songs without an audio track will be hidden.  If your computer has the optional ATL Image Manager installed and activated, you can click one button to instantly place any title with an audio file on the ATL—"Assigned Track List".  And when a track (i.e., music file) is ON the ATL, it can be played at any moment.  (See the next paragraph.)

 ADVISORY:   Codentity License Manager (CLM) contains license monitoring technology.  It can detect product tampering, date alterations, and other violations of the EULA (End User License Agreement).
